Michaela & Keltin’s Columbia, Missouri Wedding at the Knights of Columbus Hall
There are some wedding receptions where you know pretty quickly that the crowd came ready to celebrate. Michaela and Keltin Serio’s wedding reception at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Columbia, Missouri was absolutely one of those nights.
From a high-energy grand entrance to country favorites, pop-punk singalongs, family traditions, and a packed dance floor, this reception was a great example of what can happen when the music reflects the couple and the people celebrating with them.
As their wedding DJ, my goal with Michaela and Keltin was simple: keep the evening organized, make the important moments feel special, and then give their guests a party they would remember.
A Wedding Reception Built Around Michaela & Keltin
One of the things I love about DJing weddings is that no two receptions should feel exactly the same.
Michaela and Keltin wanted a mix that reflected their personalities while still giving their roughly 200 guests plenty of music they could enjoy.
Their tastes covered everything from country and classic rock to 2000s pop-punk and big singalong favorites.
That gave me plenty to work with throughout the evening.
We could move from artists like Chris Stapleton and Garth Brooks into songs from Blink-182, Jimmy Eat World, Bowling for Soup, The Killers, Taylor Swift, KISS, and more.
The result was a dance floor that stayed active and a reception that felt like their party rather than a generic wedding playlist.
An Epic “Thunderstruck” Grand Entrance
The grand entrance was one of the highlights of the reception.
Michaela and Keltin selected “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC, and we used the song to build anticipation throughout the entrance.
Instead of simply announcing everyone and hitting play, we used the opening of the track to get the room involved and build the energy.
The wedding party entered first as the song continued to climb. Then we timed Michaela and Keltin’s entrance around the “Texas” section of the song that they specifically wanted.
By the time the newlyweds entered the room, their guests were already on their feet and ready to celebrate.
Those little details matter. A great wedding DJ isn’t just playing the requested song—it’s figuring out how to use that song to create a moment.
First Dances and Family Moments
After the energy of the grand entrance, we brought things down for the formal dances.
Michaela and Keltin shared their first dance to “Unchained Melody” by The Righteous Brothers.
Michaela then danced with her father, Jimmy, to “Wonderful Tonight” by Eric Clapton.
Keltin shared two mother-son dances, including “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts and “Humble and Kind” by Tim McGraw.
These moments are one of the reasons I put so much emphasis on communication and planning before a wedding. The transitions between events should feel natural, and the couple shouldn't have to spend their reception wondering what they're supposed to do next.
My job as the DJ and MC is to keep things moving while still giving moments like these room to breathe.
A Special Polish Dance With Grandpa
One of my favorite moments of the entire wedding was a family tradition Michaela wanted to incorporate into the reception.
At 7:00 PM, we brought everyone’s attention back to the dance floor for a special Polish dance featuring “In Heaven There Is No Beer” by Frank Yankovic and His Yanks.
Michaela began the dance with her grandfather while Keltin danced with his mother, Chris.
Then we invited everyone else to join them.
It was one of those moments that perfectly demonstrates why weddings are about so much more than simply filling a dance floor.
Yes, I want people dancing.
Yes, I want the room energized.
But years from now, moments like Michaela dancing with her grandpa while her family gathered around them are the things people remember.
I was grateful to get to help create that moment.
Last-Minute Changes? No Problem.
Wedding plans change.
Sometimes they even change right before the reception.
Michaela mentioned in her review that they made some last-minute song adjustments and that I was able to work on them immediately.
That flexibility is an important part of the service I try to provide.
A planning form and final planning call give us a strong game plan, but a wedding isn't a prerecorded show. If something changes, we adjust.
If dinner runs late, we adjust.
If the photographer needs another minute, we adjust.
If the couple suddenly realizes they want a different song for an important moment, we do everything we can to make it happen.
The couple should be enjoying their wedding—not stressing about the DJ timeline.
From Country to Pop-Punk
Once formalities were finished, it was time to party.

Rather than playing one genre for an hour straight, the night was about reading the room and moving between styles while keeping people engaged.
Country could pull one group onto the floor, a familiar rock anthem could bring another generation in, and then a run of 2000s pop-punk could have a completely different section of the room screaming every word.
That is where an experienced wedding DJ earns their keep.
A playlist knows what song comes next.
A DJ watches the people in front of them and decides what song should come next.
More Than Just Playing Music
For this reception, DJ service also meant helping host the evening.
With no dedicated day-of coordinator, communication between the couple, family, photographer, catering staff, and DJ became especially important.
I helped guide guests through the major moments of the reception, handled announcements, managed the flow of dinner table dismissals, introduced formalities, and kept everyone informed without constantly interrupting the celebration.
The goal is for all of that work to feel almost invisible to the couple.
They should simply feel like their wedding is moving naturally from one great moment to another.
