Maddie & Greg’s Wedding Reception at Reichmann Pavilion in Columbia, MO
Some weddings are built around traditions. Others are built around the party. For Maddie and Greg’s wedding reception at Reichmann Pavilion in Columbia, Missouri, we got to do a little bit of both.
From a carefully planned grand entrance and family dances to an outfit-change reveal, a Wisconsin polka, and a dance floor that jumped between country, 2000s throwbacks, rock, pop, and hip-hop, this reception had a ton of personality.
As their wedding DJ and MC, my job wasn’t just to play the songs. It was to work with their planner and other vendors, manage the timeline, make announcements, cue each important moment, and then read the room once the dance floor opened.
A Columbia, MO Wedding Reception at Reichmann Pavilion
Reichmann Pavilion gave us a great setting for the evening. Guests began arriving around 4:00 PM while Maddie and Greg finished photos around Columbia.
We kept the room relaxed with background music and ambient lighting while everyone grabbed drinks, found their tables, and settled in.
Then at 5:00, it was time to officially get things started.
A Grand Entrance Inspired by The Office
Maddie and Greg wanted their wedding-party entrance to have the feel of the famous wedding scene from The Office, with “Forever” by Chris Brown providing the soundtrack.
The wedding party made their way inside first before we brought the energy up for the newlyweds.
Once everyone was ready, I got the room on its feet and we officially welcomed Mr. and Mrs. Morgan.
From there, we moved directly into cake cutting before opening the buffet for dinner.
That’s one of the advantages of having your DJ actively manage the reception timeline. There doesn’t have to be awkward downtime between moments. We can keep guests informed and smoothly move the room from one part of the evening to the next.
Toasts and Special Dances
After dinner, we heard speeches from Best Man Luke, Maid of Honor Brooklyn, and friend Billy.
Then we moved into the formal dances:
First Dance: “Look After You” – The Fray
Father/Daughter Dance: “I Loved Her First” – Heartland
Mother/Son Dance: “Who Would Imagine a King” – Whitney Houston
But Maddie had another entrance planned.
The Second Entrance That Kicked Off the Party
One of my favorite moments of the night came immediately after the parent dances.
Maddie slipped away for an outfit change while we made sure Grandma Sharon had a good spot to see what was coming.
Once Maddie started making her way down the hallway, I got the cue.
We hit “Where Is My Husband!” by RAYE, brought the dance lighting to life, and turned her second entrance into the official launch of the dance floor.
Instead of stopping afterward for another announcement, we used that energy to move directly into dancing.
It worked.
A Dance Floor With a Little Bit of Everything
Maddie had made it clear during planning that music was one of the most important parts of the reception, and her requests gave me plenty to work with.
This wasn’t a night where one genre was going to carry the entire party.
We moved through country favorites, 2000s club records, rock singalongs, throwbacks, current music, and eventually some harder late-night hip-hop.
Songs and artists throughout the night included everything from Brooks & Dunn, Jon Pardi, Gretchen Wilson, and Shaboozey to Pitbull, Nelly, Usher, The Killers, Chief Keef, Megan Thee Stallion, and GloRilla.
And yes, we even found room for a Wisconsin polka.
That’s what reading a wedding dance floor is all about. A playlist gives me the couple’s musical personality, but I don’t simply hit play and work straight down the list. I’m watching which records get people moving, which generations are on the floor, when it’s time to switch genres, and when I’ve found a pocket that’s working and need to stay there.
One of the surprise winners of the night was “Yeah 3x” by Chris Brown, which gave us another great upbeat lane late in the reception.
More Than Just Playing Wedding Music
A good wedding DJ setup matters, but so does everything happening between the songs.
Throughout Maddie and Greg’s reception, I worked alongside their planner, Polly with 2Be Events, and photographer Kelsey to keep the evening moving.
That meant coordinating entrances, speeches and dances, helping dismiss tables for dinner, making sure photography was ready before important moments, handling last call, reminding guests about the guest book and video messages, and adjusting timing as the evening unfolded.
A wedding timeline shouldn’t feel like somebody is standing over the couple with a stopwatch.
The goal is for the vendors to worry about the timeline so the couple doesn’t have to.
Ending the Night With Maddie & Greg
After hours of dancing, we brought everyone together one more time to celebrate Maddie and Greg before clearing the room.
Once their guests were gone and all that energy disappeared, the reception ended completely differently from how the dance floor had felt just minutes earlier.
Maddie and Greg had the room to themselves for a private last dance to “Speechless” by Dan + Shay.
After a night filled with big entrances, loud singalongs, packed dance-floor moments, and plenty of laughs, it was a great way for the two of them to have one quiet moment together before the night was officially over.
