Last Friday, October 9, Jazzy Josh DJ & Events had a great time providing DJ entertainment and dance floor lighting for the middle school dance at OLLIS in Columbia, Missouri!
The students came ready for a fun night, and it didn't take long for the gym to turn into a dance floor filled with music, lights, and plenty of energy.
Today's Hits, Group Dances, and a Few Slow Songs
One of the fun things about DJing middle school dances is finding the right mix of music to keep everyone involved.
For the OLLIS dance, we put together a playlist featuring current pop hits, recognizable favorites, interactive group dances, and a few slower songs throughout the evening.
We mixed in music from artists like BTS, Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, and other favorites, along with group dances that gave students a chance to get out on the floor together.
And of course, we made time for a few slow dances! Those are always a popular part of middle school events.
Since OLLIS is a Catholic school, we also made sure the music selections were appropriate for the students and the school environment. Keeping things fun while respecting the expectations of the school is always a priority.
Turning the Gym Into a Dance Floor
You don't need an elaborate venue to create a great school dance.
For this event, we brought our professional DJ sound system and dance floor lighting to help transform the OLLIS gym into a fun party atmosphere.
Colorful lighting filled the room while the music kept students moving throughout the two-hour dance.
One of the advantages of working with Jazzy Josh DJ & Events is that we bring our own professional equipment, handle setup and teardown, and work with school staff to make sure everything runs smoothly.
School Dances Are All About Reading the Crowd
Middle school dances can be a little unpredictable, and that's part of the fun!
Some students want the latest pop hits, others love group dances, and plenty look forward to those slower songs.
Rather than simply pressing play on a playlist, I adjust the music throughout the event based on how the students respond. That might mean switching genres, bringing in a familiar favorite, or choosing a group dance to get more students involved.
The goal is to keep the evening moving and make sure everyone has an opportunity to enjoy themselves.
