There are some weddings where you can tell early in the day that the dance floor is going to be a good one. Jasmine and Adam’s wedding at The Stanley Event Space in Lee’s Summit, Missouri was absolutely one of those nights.
From their rooftop ceremony overlooking downtown Lee’s Summit to a reception packed with R&B, 2000s favorites and late-night hip-hop, their wedding had a ton of personality from beginning to end.
A Rooftop Ceremony at The Stanley
Jasmine and Adam held their ceremony on The Stanley’s rooftop, which gave them a beautiful outdoor setting right in the heart of Lee’s Summit.
Jazzy Josh DJ & Events provided a separate ceremony sound system along with wireless microphone support for the officiant and music throughout the ceremony.
The couple definitely made the ceremony music their own. Their selections included Kendrick Lamar, SZA and Rod Wave, with Jasmine making her entrance to “Sacred Love” by Rod Wave. After the ceremony, “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” by Stevie Wonder kicked off the celebration as everyone headed inside.
It was a great example of why I encourage couples to choose ceremony music that actually feels like them. There’s no rule saying a wedding processional has to sound like every other wedding.
Cocktail Hour & Reception
After the ceremony, guests headed inside for cocktail hour while Jasmine and Adam wrapped up photos.
The music stayed smooth and relaxed with a mix of modern and classic R&B before everyone moved into the reception.
The wedding party and newlyweds made their entrance to “Married Next Year” by Rod Wave, followed by Jasmine and Adam's first dance to “Richest” by Muni Long.
Dinner kept that R&B and soul feel going with selections including Bobby Caldwell, Average White Band and Tamia before we started gradually increasing the energy for the dance floor.
From R&B Classics to a Packed Dance Floor
Once dancing started, the goal wasn't to jump immediately into the hardest records of the night. We built it.
Early dancing mixed wedding favorites with 2000s R&B and hip-hop, giving everybody a chance to get involved. Then, as the night went on, we shifted toward the music Jasmine and Adam really wanted.
And this crowd was ready for it.
One of Jasmine and Adam's must-plays was “Swag Surfin’” by F.L.Y. Rather than playing it right when dancing started, I held onto it until the dance floor was full. When it finally dropped, everybody knew exactly what to do.
Later, we turned things up with harder hip-hop, including another special request, “First Day Out” by Tee Grizzley.
That's one of my favorite parts of DJing weddings: reading the room while still making sure the couple hears the music that made them excited about their reception in the first place.
A Wedding That Sounded Like Jasmine & Adam
What stood out about this wedding was how personal the music felt.
There was R&B throughout the day, plenty of 2000s nostalgia, singalongs, line dances and a late-night stretch of hip-hop. It wasn't a generic wedding playlist—it reflected Jasmine and Adam and the people celebrating with them.
The evening wrapped up with “(I've Had) The Time of My Life” by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes, followed by a bubble send-off for the newlyweds.
From the rooftop ceremony to the final song, it was an awesome day to be part of.
