Emily & Evan's Wedding Reception at Kimball Ballroom | Columbia, Missouri

Some weddings are memorable because of the venue. Others are memorable because of the people.

Emily and Evan's wedding was definitely the second.

Even after a last-minute venue change, the energy never changed. Family and friends showed up ready to celebrate, the couple stayed focused on what mattered most, and the result was an evening full of laughter, great music, and a packed dance floor.

I had the privilege of providing the soundtrack for their wedding reception at Kimball Ballroom on the Stephens College campus in Columbia, Missouri, and it was one of those weddings where the room just felt good from start to finish.

A Reception That Felt Like Home

With around 50 of their closest family members and friends, the reception had a relaxed, intimate atmosphere from the moment guests arrived.

Dinner was filled with conversation and laughter, followed by heartfelt toasts that had everyone smiling—and a few people wiping away tears. Emily and Evan's first dance was the perfect way to kick off the evening's formal moments before the dance floor officially opened.

One of my favorite parts of the night was watching the wedding party and parents join the couple for a special dance together before inviting everyone else onto the floor. It created a natural transition that made the dance floor feel welcoming instead of intimidating.

A Dance Floor That Never Needed Much Convincing

As the formalities wrapped up, the party started exactly how every DJ hopes it will.

The classics got everyone moving first. Songs from Earth, Wind & Fire, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Hall & Oates brought multiple generations together, filling the dance floor with guests of all ages.

Once everyone was comfortable, we shifted into the couple's favorite era—2000s R&B and hip-hop.

Usher, Ciara, Sean Paul, Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, Drake, Black Eyed Peas, and Pitbull kept the energy high while still feeling approachable for a mixed crowd. It wasn't about playing the loudest songs—it was about playing the right songs at the right time.

One thing I always enjoy is watching guests hear that one song that instantly takes them back. Throughout the night there were countless moments where someone would hear the opening beat, grab a friend, and head straight for the dance floor.

Those are the moments people remember.

The Perfect Ending

As the evening began winding down, the music naturally shifted with it.

Instead of forcing one last burst of energy, the dance floor transformed into something a little different. Couples stayed out together, friends gathered around singing along, and conversations blended with music as everyone soaked in the final moments of the celebration.

It was the kind of ending that didn't feel rushed. Guests lingered, hugged goodbye, shared stories, and enjoyed every last minute together before the night came to a close.

That's one of my favorite parts of weddings. It's never just about playing music—it's about creating moments people will remember long after the reception ends.

Congratulations, Emily & Evan!
