Sophie & Zach’s Wedding at The Mercantile Event Center | Boonville, MO Wedding DJ
There are some wedding receptions where you know pretty quickly that the couple came ready to have fun. Sophie and Zach’s wedding reception at The Mercantile Event Center in Boonville, Missouri was definitely one of those nights.
From a memorable grand entrance and family dances to an open-mic toast session, a hilarious Shoe Game, a print photo booth, and a dance floor filled with country, 2000s throwbacks, hip-hop, and guest requests, their reception felt completely like them.
I had the opportunity to provide DJ and MC services along with a print photo booth for the celebration, and this was a fun one from beginning to end.
A Wedding Reception in Downtown Boonville, Missouri
The Mercantile Event Center provided a beautiful setting for Sophie and Zach’s reception in downtown Boonville. With warm lighting, hardwood floors, plenty of room for guests, and a dance floor right in the middle of the celebration, the space transformed nicely as the evening moved from dinner into dancing.
Sophie and Zach held their ceremony separately, so my night began as guests arrived at The Mercantile for cocktail hour. We kept things relaxed with acoustic music, country instrumentals, and laid-back country favorites while guests grabbed drinks, visited, and checked out the photo booth.
Dinner followed, with music staying in the background while we gradually built the energy toward the couple’s arrival.
An Entrance Featuring Lightning McQueen
One of my favorite parts of the night happened before Sophie and Zach even entered.
Two of the youngest members of the celebration, Miller and Nora, made their entrance in a Lightning McQueen car to “Life Is a Highway” by Rascal Flatts.
That is a sentence I don't get to write in every wedding recap.
Once everyone was in place, we brought in the wedding party and welcomed the newlyweds as Mr. and Mrs. Sprinkle before moving into the formal dances.
Sophie and Zach shared their first dance to “I Am Yours, You Are Mine” by Joshua Sloane, followed by special family dances, including Zach’s dance with his mom to “Like Jesus Does” by Eric Church.
The evening also included a fathers-and-daughters dance that invited dads and daughters throughout the room onto the floor together, along with a special dance between Sophie and her mom.
Toasts and an Irish Goodbye
Instead of having a rigid list of scheduled speakers, Sophie and Zach opened the microphone to family and friends who wanted to share a few words.
And before opening the dance floor, Sophie and Zach had one particularly important request for their guests:
Please feel free to Irish Goodbye.
No need to track down the newlyweds. No pulling them away from the dance floor. And definitely no classic 30-minute Midwest goodbye where you announce you're leaving and somehow remain standing next to the door half an hour later.
When you're ready to leave, just disappear.
I can get behind that wedding tradition.
Country, 2000s Throwbacks & a Dance Floor Built Around the Couple
One thing Sophie made clear during planning was that she wanted a fun dance floor, but she also wanted plenty of opportunities to actually dance with her new husband.
That's an important distinction.
A great wedding reception doesn't necessarily mean playing four straight hours of maximum-energy club music. The best dance floors rise and fall throughout the night. Big party records create energy, slower songs give couples a chance to dance together, and then you build the room right back up.
For Sophie and Zach, that meant moving between country favorites, 2000s throwbacks, pop, hip-hop, R&B, current music, and guest requests throughout the evening.
Songs from artists like Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, Jake Owen, Cody Johnson, Usher, Nelly, Sean Paul, Flo Rida, and Nicki Minaj all fit naturally into the musical direction of the night.
And importantly, their do-not-play list mattered just as much as their requests. Every wedding crowd is different, and the goal isn't to run through a predetermined list of “wedding songs.” It's to figure out what this particular room responds to and build from there.
That's a big part of how I approach weddings with Jazzy Josh DJ & Events: planning the important moments ahead of time while still reading the crowd in real time.
A Print Photo Booth for the Reception
Along with DJ and MC services, Sophie and Zach added the Print Photo Booth for their guests.
We created a custom black-and-white design inspired by their wedding invitation, giving the photo booth prints a look that actually fit the style of their wedding rather than feeling like a generic template.
Throughout the reception, guests could jump into the booth, take their photos, and leave with a physical keepsake from the night.

This was such a fun group to spend the evening with, and I'm grateful Sophie and Zach trusted me to be part of their wedding celebration.
From Lightning McQueen kicking off the entrances to the Shoe Game, family dances, country favorites, 2000s throwbacks, photo booth pictures, and plenty of late-night requests, their reception was personal, relaxed, and genuinely fun.
