A Beautiful Fall Wedding at The Barn in Festus, MO | Mikala & Joseph Ortmann

There's something about fall weddings in Missouri that's hard to beat. The changing leaves, cooler weather, and rustic venues make for some pretty incredible celebrations, and Mikala and Joseph Ortmann's wedding was no exception!

On October 25, 2026, I had the pleasure of providing ceremony and reception DJ services for their wedding at The Barn at Crites Park in Festus, Missouri.

From a beautiful outdoor ceremony to a reception full of 2000s throwbacks, singalongs, and even some breakdancing, this wedding had a little bit of everything!

An Outdoor Fall Wedding Ceremony at The Barn

The day started with a gorgeous outdoor ceremony on the grass outside the barn. With the fall colors surrounding the property and a rustic wooden arch serving as the backdrop, it was a beautiful setting for Mikala and Joseph to say their vows.

One of the things I love about being a wedding DJ is helping couples make their ceremony music personal. Mikala and Joseph chose instrumental arrangements of Noah Kahan songs for their processional and bridal entrance, which fit the atmosphere perfectly.

Their ceremony music included:

  • Wedding Processional: "Maine" — Guitar Tribute Players

  • Bridal Entrance: "Everywhere, Everything" — Guitar Tribute Players

  • Recessional: "Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)" — Stevie Wonder

We used a separate sound system for the outdoor ceremony, complete with a wireless microphone for the officiant, so everyone could hear the vows clearly.

Once the ceremony wrapped up, guests headed inside while the newlyweds took photos with their family and wedding party.

A Rustic Barn Reception Full of Character

If you're looking for a rustic wedding venue in Jefferson County, The Barn at Crites Park is definitely worth checking out.

The exposed wooden beams, warm lighting, and vintage details gave the reception such a cozy atmosphere. It's one of those venues that looks great without needing a ton of extra decoration.

The reception kicked off with the grand entrance of the new Mr. and Mrs. Ortmann to "You Make My Dreams" by Hall & Oates.

From there, guests enjoyed a buffet dinner while I kept the music going with a mix of classic country, Motown, soft rock, and familiar favorites.

One of the things I focus on with Jazzy Josh DJ & Events is making sure the day flows smoothly without the couple having to worry about what's coming next.

That means coordinating with the wedding coordinator, handling announcements, dismissing tables for dinner, and making sure everything stays on schedule.

Special Dances and Personal Moments

After dinner, it was time for some of the most meaningful moments of the reception.

Mikala and Joseph shared their first dance to "There's the Sun" by Zach Top, followed by a father-daughter dance to "I Loved Her First" by Heartland and a mother-son dance to Frank Sinatra's "Fly Me to the Moon."

The couple wanted their formal dances to be short and sweet, so I worked with them ahead of time to prepare custom music edits.

That way, they could enjoy those special moments without feeling like they had to spend several minutes in the spotlight.

It's a small detail, but those are exactly the kinds of things I enjoy helping couples with during the wedding planning process.

Every couple has their own vision, and I want the music and flow of the day to reflect that.

When the 2000s Throwbacks Took Over the Dance Floor!

Now, this is where things got really fun!

We started the reception with a mix of country, classic rock, and familiar dance favorites, but once the dance floor opened, we quickly discovered that this crowd had a serious love for 2000s music.

I'm talking Justin Bieber, Usher, Nelly, Snoop Dogg, Sean Paul, and all those songs that immediately take you back to the days of burned CDs, MySpace, and early iPods.

Songs like "Yeah!" by Usher, "Low" by Flo Rida, and "Drop It Like It's Hot" by Snoop Dogg had everyone getting into it.

And yes, we even had some breakdancing on the barn floor!

Those are the moments I love most about DJing weddings. You can spend months planning the music, but sometimes the best parts of the night happen when you read the room and find exactly what gets everyone excited.

My job isn't just to play songs. It's to pay attention to the crowd, keep things moving, and make sure everyone is having a great time.

A Wedding DJ Who Handles More Than Just Music

For Mikala and Joseph's wedding, I provided music and sound for both the outdoor ceremony and indoor reception, along with wireless microphones, announcements, dinner coordination, special dance edits, and dance floor lighting.

Having one DJ handle the music and announcements throughout the day helps everything feel connected, from the first guest arriving to the final song.

At Jazzy Josh DJ & Events, I work directly with my couples throughout the entire planning process. I don't just show up with speakers and a playlist.

We work together on ceremony music, special moments, timelines, announcements, and the overall atmosphere so that everything feels like your wedding.

If you're planning a wedding in Festus, St. Louis, Jefferson City, Columbia, or anywhere else in Missouri, I'd love to help you create a celebration that fits your style.

Congratulations, Mikala & Joseph!

A huge thank-you to Mikala and Joseph for trusting me to be part of their wedding day!

Between the beautiful fall ceremony, the rustic barn setting, and a dance floor full of 2000s throwbacks, this was such a fun wedding to be part of.

Wishing the new Mr. and Mrs. Ortmann a lifetime of happiness together!
